Taylor Swift first appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in March 2009, but the country pop star seems even more psyched the second time around. “That’s what you hope for your whole life as a musician: the cover of Rolling Stone,” Swift told us behind the scenes of her cover shoot in New York. “To be offered it for the second time now is amazing. I’m having a sort of dream week.”

In between set-ups captured by photographer Theo Wenner, Swift chatted amicably about her latest smash single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and her bold new album Red, out on October 22nd. “I really wanted to experiment with my sound and the amount of colors I can paint with,” Swift said. “Each song is so different from any other song, it’s a really exciting experience to listen to the album from top to bottom.”

Swift also spoke about her tour next year, the follow-up to her massively successful Speak Now World Tour. “I have so many goals for next year, and I think one of them is putting together a tour to not surpass or top what we did with the last tour, but try to make something that stands on its own and is equally entertaining for people.”

Swift’s new Rolling Stone cover hits stands on October 12th with a revealing feature by Brian Hiatt.
